Photorejuvenation - Laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment
Photorejuvenation using intense pulsed light (IPL) is one of the best non-ablative skin treatments currently available. In the photo rejuvination treatment intense pulsed light (IPL) is used to reduce skin blemishes such as Rosacea, acne scars, birthmarks, brown spots, sun damage, facial thread veins and broken capillaries around the nose. During the IPL treatment the specialist will focus the IPL onto the area around the scar or blemish 'burning' the upper layers of skin away. The IPL treatment stimulates the growth of new skin in the treated area and once the skin grows back the scar or blemish is usually less noticeable. The IPL treatment can be used on the face as well as the neck, chest and hands.

How long does the IPL treatment take?
The IPL procedure takes between 20-30 minutes. You will hear a noise like a slap/clap during the treatment as the light is pulsed, which can be unsettling at first if you are not prepared for it. A local anaesthetic may be used before the treatment and your eyes must be protected with specially designed goggles.

How many IPL treatments are required?
The number of IPL treatments that are required depends on a number of factors including the skin tone and the extent of the blemishes or scarring that needs to be treated. Howver typically a minimum of three treatments (range 3-5) are carried out with a month space between each IPL treatment.

Does the IPL treatment hurt?
During the IPL treatment you may feel a stinging sensation that could be sore for up to a day after the treatment.

What can I expect to see after treatment and do I need recovery timee?
Your face may be slightly red for several hours after the IPL treatment but this redness can persist for several weeks. The IPL treated areas will become darker beforer flaking off.

As with all laser related treatments the IPL process is not recommended if you have a dark skin pigmentation or have a tan. Sunscreen with the maximum SPF should be used before and after the IPL treatment no matter what the weather.
