Sclerotization: Vein Therapy/Removal
Varicose veins, which can often be seen on the backs of calves and knees are injected with a special foam through a tiny needle into the vein. By injecting the vein with this special substance into the vein the veins begin to gradually absorb themselves. The sclerotization treatment is generally used for veins of smaller circumference than 1 mm known as microvarixes.
It is often recommended that sclerotization occurs for patients with isolated locations of only the smallest of veins. After such an operation it is recommended to wear medical elastic tights over the treated areas.
It is possible to notice dark patterns in the area of the subtle veins. This pattern is caused by the pigmentation of pathological veins. The pattern will become highlightened after sclerotization however it shall disappear only after a short period of time (simultaneously with the healing abilities of the organism). In 5–10 % of cases, these pigmentations stay in the form of maps for a longer period, or even forever. Nevertheless, sclerotization is suitable for cosmetic reasons and as a prevention against further spreading of spider veins.
This treatment is generally performed for cosmetic reasons however in some countries such as Australia, the health care system will pay a part of the cost of this treatment, unlike other cosmetic treatments. Some pain is associated with this treated, however generally it is mild. Swelling and bruising can occur for several days later. Generally a compression tights are worn for up to a week or two depending on the treatment situation. This treatment may needed to be repeated for best results.
When choosing a cosmetic professional, check their qualifications, ask them questions, such as how long have they been practising for, how may years have they performed these procedures, ask them about the risk factors, let the professional know exactly want you want, be as clear as possible, shop around and furthermore, if he or she makes you feel uncomfortable or doesn't have time for you go some where else. It is important to do your own research into these procedures as all procedures can have side effects and complications, you need to weigh it up, is this really want I want? Can I live with the results even if they are not want I was expecting? What are my rights if the procedure goes wrong? Do your own research and be informed as much as possible.
